BIOGRAPHY

VINCENZO A. MANNO was born in Cleveland, Ohio (U.S.A.) and completed his American studies at Oberlin College under the tutelage of Prof. Richard Miller. After awarded his degree, thanks to a Fullbright Fellowship, Manno continued his studies in Italy at Santa Cecilia in Rome with M.o Gennaro D’Angelo and at Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory, in Milan, with M.o Ettore Campogalliani. His private studies in Milan continued with Dr. Otto Mueller, for years affiliated with the Metropolitan Opera House of New York. After Dr. Mueller’s death, Manno was accepted into the the prestigious private singing school directed by vocal pedagogue, Prof. Dennis Hall in Bern, Switzerland and because of his studies with Prof. Hall, he was encouraged to open a voice studio in Milan, Italy, which now has become a sort of Mecca for singers from around the world.
His singing career as an established singer embraced a wide repertory from the baroque to the traditional to the modern. He sang with theatres companies in all parts of the world, and his radio performances with the European radios had been admired by the public and the critics alike. He currently is a permanent member of the Teatro alla Scala, in Milan, Italy. He is the recipient of several awards for his recordings, among them the “Grand Prix du Disque” for baroque music, recorded with the great Swiss conductor, M° Edwin Loehrer, and the “Best Recording of the Year”, from Grammophone Magazine, for his 2 cd solo recording, of tenor music of the 17th century, “Strana Armonia d’Amore”, with M.o Roberto Gini.
The teaching career of M° Manno has taken great strides in the past ten years, with the recognition of his teaching of the Italian school of singing, by creating emerging singers of all continents. He also holds seminars and master classes on singing style. His teaching has brought him to be regularly invited to teach technique at the world reknown Accademia dei Giovani Cantanti (Academy of Young Singers) affiliated with the Teatro alla Scala and the Accademia Internazionale della Musica (International Music Academy) in Milan, Italy. He is also a special guest outside of Italy, teaching interpretation and staging scenes and full-length operas for young singers. He delivered the keynote address and for the 20th National Professional Development Conference, sponsored by the New Zealand Association of Teachers of Singing (NEWZATS) at Queen Margaret College in Wellington, New Zealand and he took part in numerous discussions as guest speaker. While in New Zealand Maestro Manno gave master classes at the Universities of Otago and Waikato as well as private lessons. Recently Maestro Manno has taught English diction to the prestigious chorus of the "Teatro alla Scala" for the La Scala debut of Benjamin Britten's “Death in Venice” (having already done this work at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa) and was immediately reconfirmed for the world premiere of Luca Francesconi's new opera “Quartett”.
Manno is also known for his wide experience in pop music, Broadway and operetta. He has guided several Italian pop singers through recording sessions and he's regularly contacted by the Italian television to help arranging songs for singers and giving advices on new compositions. Because of his devotion to divulging culture in the world of music, on May 3, 2007, Vincenzo Manno was honoured with a tribute by the United States Congress.Maestro Manno enjoys the possibility to listen to the newest up and coming opera talent when he has the opportunity to judge competitions around the country. The students of Vincenzo Manno can be heard regularly around the world in the main opera houses, recordings, concert halls, radios and televisions. In recent years Mestro Manno has dedicated himself to the future generations of singers by imparting his personal insights, profound love of the art and great knowledge of opera.
